Prediction of Non-Linguistic Information of Spontaneous Speech from the Prosodic Annotation: Evaluation of the X-JToBI system
نویسنده
چکیده
Speakers’ gender and age-group were predicted using the symbolic information of the X-JToBI prosodic labelling scheme as applied to the Core of the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese (44 hours, 155 speakers, 201 talks). The correct prediction rate of speaker gender by means of logistic regression analysis was about 80%, and, the correct discrimination rate of speaker age-group (4 groups) by means of linear discriminant analysis was about 50 %. These results, in conjunction with the previously reported result of the prediction experiment of 4 speech registers from the X-JToBI information, shows convincingly the superiority of X-JToBI over the traditional J_ToBI. Clarification of the mechanism by which genderand/or age-group information were reflected in the symbolic representations of prosody largely remains as open question, although some preliminary analyses were presented in the current paper.

متن کاملX-JToBI: AN EXTENDED J-ToBI FO
We report on the new X-JToBI prosodic labeling scheme, the eXtended version of J_ToBI which has grown out of our work on annotating prosodic features of spontaneous speech. Among the new characteristics of X-JToBI are 1) Exact match between the time-stamp of tone labels and the timing of physical events, 2) Enlargement of the inventory of boundary pitch movements, 3) Extension and ramification ...
متن کاملA Corpus-based Analysis on Prosody and Discourse Structure in Japanese Spontaneous Monologues
The aim of this paper is two folds. First, the paper attempts to investigate prosody and discourse structure in Japanese spontaneous monologues by using the prosodic labels of the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese (CSJ). The analyses of F0 peak trends and prosodic breaks confirmed previous findings in [1]. Secondly, the paper attempts to evaluate the validity of prosodic labels of the X-JToBI syst...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of Shared Prosodic Annotation for Spontaneous French Speech: From Expert Knowledge to Non-Expert Annotation
In the area of large French speech corpora, there is a demonstrated need for a common prosodic notation system allowing for easy data exchange, comparison, and automatic annotation. The major questions are: (1) how to develop a single simple scheme of prosodic transcription which could form the basis of guidelines for non-expert manual annotation (NEMA), used for linguistic teaching and researc...
متن کاملDiscrimination of Speech Registers by Prosody
Normalized frequency data of X-JToBI prosodic labels were used to automatically discriminate 4 speech registers –academic presentation, simulated public speaking, dialogue, and reproduction speech– of the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese (CSJ). It turned out that the use of prosodic label frequency information and speaking rate could achieve more than 85% accuracy (closed data). It also turned ou...
